Solar photovoltaics is a common solar technology that has a high potential to meet global energy demand and significantly impacts the transition to sustainable energy by reducing carbon emissions from WWTPs by 10%–40%. However, solar PV deployment requires expansive land areas ( Chen and Zhou, 2022; Claus and López, 2022 ).
Integrating renewable energy sources, biogas, and solar energy could provide up to 88% of the annual energy requirements of WWTPs. Recommendations are provided for further research considering the limited availability of integrated resources for studying the simultaneous utilization of photovoltaic and biogas systems. 1.
