Techno-economically feasible secondary and flow battery technologies are required to enable future offshore wind farms with integrated energy storage. The natural intermittency of wind energy is a challenge that must be overcome to allow a greater introduction of this resource into the energy mix.
Aiming to offer a comprehensive representation of the existing literature, a multidimensional systematic analysis is presented to explore the technical feasibility of delivering diverse services utilizing distinct energy storage technologies situated at various locations within an HVDC-connected offshore wind farm.
For this purpose, the incorporation of energy storage systems to provide those services with no or minimum disturbance to the wind farm is a promising alternative.
